EBU ENVIROMENTAL BUSINESS UNIT
EBU develops innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the value of traditional agri-food products. The project builds on the company’s expertise in the processing and transformation of plant-based raw materials and focuses on the development of a new generation of healthy, natural, and sustainable snacks.
At the core of the initiative is an integrated process of pan-drying and micro-texturization, developed in-house, which enables the transformation of dried vegetables into snacks with superior sensory and nutritional properties compared to solutions currently available on the market.
One of the resulting products has already been successfully validated within a research framework, confirming the potential of the technology.
Smart snacks made from Mediterranean vegetables
The project now aims to transfer the process from the laboratory to a demonstration line, expanding the range of Mediterranean vegetables that can be used, optimising sensory and nutritional properties and reducing production costs.
Particular attention is being paid to sustainability: EBU is developing a distribution system using refillable dispensers, designed for high-traffic environments such as schools, gyms and public spaces.
This solution guarantees product quality and safety, eliminates single-use packaging and promotes responsible consumption patterns.
I-SNACK - Production of smart snacks
“I-SNACK – Production of smart snacks” is the research and development project through which EBU aims to industrialise and optimise its technology.
Activities focus on refining the production process, expanding the range of functional vegetable snacks and improving nutritional and sensory characteristics, with a particular focus on young consumers.
At the same time, the project aims to reduce production costs and increase product shelf life.
The distinctive feature is the development of innovative packaging and distribution solutions aimed at reducing environmental impact and eliminating single-use packaging.
I-SNACK represents a strategic step forward for EBU: from experimental validation to industrial demonstration, to the creation of new opportunities for application and collaboration with local businesses and producers.
